21. What are the risks of TPA therapy?

. Symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage rate 6.4% (i.e., 1 in 16; 95% CI 3.5–9.2%) vs. 0.6% in placebo.

. There have been cases of angioedema. In a retrospective series, it was reported to occur at a rate of 5.1% (95% CI 2.3–9.5%), but this is probably an overestimate.

Occurs more frequently in patients taking angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors.
