What should I look out for which may indicate my cancer has come back?
It is difficult to list every symptom to look for, and many of these could occur for lots of reasons other than the cancer coming back.
Generally, you should report any noticeable changes in your health, or anything which is unusual for you, that persists over several weeks without getting better and which does not have an obvious cause. Not every ache, pain, lump or change will mean that your cancer has returned, although this may be the first thought that comes to mind.
However, report any new signs or symptoms to your doctor. If the problem is unrelated to your cancer, your mind will be put at rest and if it is a sign of a recurrence, treatment can be given. Is there anything I can do to stop my cancer coming back?
There is nothing guaranteed. Some research studies have shown that people who take regular exercise have a better outlook after their breast cancer. This can be difficult after the onslaught of all your treatment but many people feel they want to make some changes to their lifestyle to improve general health and well-being. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself but try to build up to taking regular exercise to improve your overall health.
