My cousin has suggested I try homoeopathy rather than the migraine tablets I take. What is it, and could it help me?

Homoeopathy is a form of therapy developed on the principle of treating like with like; a very diluted amount of a substance is given that, undiluted, would normally reproduce the symptoms of the illness but when given in such minute quantities produces a ‘cure’.

The homoeopath is treating you as a person, rather than the migraine itself. A qualified homoeopath will tailor the treatment to you as an individual, so it is better to seek advice from a qualified therapist, rather than try something you have bought yourself.

There are five homoeopathic hospitals in the United Kingdom for example, within the NHS. As with any NHS service, you need a doctor referral to be seen. The hospitals are scattered around the country, so they are not necessarily readily accessible to everyone.
