How long have I got left to live?

This is what most people want to know when they have secondary breast cancer.

It is also almost impossible to answer and will depend on where the secondary breast cancer is and how it is responding to treatment.

Breast cancer can be unpredictable so it is very difficult for doctors to be precise but they can give you an approximate idea if you want them to. Even then you may exceed their expectations, so beware of putting too much store by what is really only an educated guess.

We know that research is on-going, that cancer treatments continue to be developed, and that options for palliative care are also improving all the time.

Our hope is to have provided you with accurate information to guide you and support you both now and in the future.

Always remember that nearly three-quarters of people are still alive and well ten years after a diagnosis of breast cancer.
